Default FSI X100 Filter vessel ?

I finally broke down and decided to go the filter bag route. I bought the FS X100 filter vessel so I can use the 1 micron bag filters. I bought the starter kit and put everything together. What they didn't tell me is there is a small threaded hole on the cap. I bought a pressure valve with 1/4" NTP as stated in the manual. That doesn't fit nor does a 1/8" NPT. Anyone have any idea what size thread this is? And where can you find adapters?

Filterbag.com hasn't responded yet. I found a rubber stopper with a bolt through it that I can patch the hole. But for under $400.00 you would think they would send a plug or have a fitting you can find in local hardware stores.

Any thoughts?
Thanks

I have that same filter. That hole is 1/4" NPT.

That's what it states, but a 1/4" NPT thread doesn't fit and 1/8 is too small. I stopped at an autozone and found an rubber oil plug which worked fine. It has a bolt through it with a wing nut to tighten. It held just fine.

Is this something you can tap out to 1/4" NPT? It is plastic and haven't found a long enough thread on a valve to put a gasket and nut on in the inside.

This thing works really great. I kept my double 5 micron house water filters in line before the X100. We filtered 90 gallons with no issues which I should have done years ago. Now we'll see what filter life we gain and hope to save a few injectors in the process.

Default X-100

You may have a defective one. I'd leave it the way you have it. I used to have a pressure gauge in the top and now I too just have a plug. I installed the pressure gauge in a different part of my set up.

One thing I learned is plumb you system so you can polish your SVO through that X100 filter for 1-2 hours. Then, close one ball valve and open another you pump it into your vehicle. I pour my settled SVO through a 5 micron 32" FSI filter into a barrel. Let it settle for 1 week or longer then use vacuum to suck it up into a 80 gallon hot water heater. After heat+vacuum de-watering I use a Northern Tool 1" water pump to polish the oil through the FSI X-100 filter where I use a 1 micron filter. The X-100 filters last a long time because the svo is very clean by the time it gets to that stage.

Works very well and aside from the X-100 filter+base, the components are inexpensive.

I bought the starter kit which has the little filter minder on the side of the vessel. I'll probably do the same and leave the plug in it. Thanks for your help!

I have the same filter. Because I live in a cold climate, I installed a schrader valve on my pressure guage nipple in order to purge the leftover warm oil out of the filter so it is clear of ice cold oil next time I want to filter. mine is 1/4 npt

I have a petcock valve that rises vertically out of the top of my filter with a U-turn in it. I can open the valve and drain the oil out of the filter. It helps when changing a filter or as you say, to keep the filter from holding cold oil.

I have a differential gauge on the side of my filter to tell me when the oil filter needs changing.

Great idea. I will add that to my set up. The bag filter is sometimes half filled with oil when I replace it and can make a mess. Thanks for the tip!

Easy Bag-Filter changes:
(I "mis-spoke" in previous post...) The valve on the top of the filter has a U turn tube attached to it so the opening points down. It is to allow air in the filter so gravity can pull the oil through the filter before you change the filter and the bag isn't full of oil. I let mine drain through the filter for a day or so before removing the bag. the valve is also used to purge any air bubble out of the top of the filter body after you put a new filter in it. It helps prevent poly buildup. Just put a jar under the tube opening and pump oil into the filter. When the small valve is opened, the air will rush out and when the oil starts to go into the can, close the valve and the air is purged. Then, I remove the U turn tube for cleaning so it doesn't plug with poly for the next filter change.

My pleasure, I'm glad you can adapt it. My oil consumption and collection has dropped dramatically. I only filter about every 5 weeks or so now. Better than the once every 4 day routine. that got old...
