Default 12v fuel strainer/pre-heater question

im wondering what the frybrid cummins 12v kit fitting looks like that bypasses the fuel strainer/pre-heater. Should I drop the fuel filter to get better access? It sure is tight in there!

I pulled the starter and worked from below.
the inlet to the LP is 1/2"NPT when you unscrew the big ugly fitting that is in it, you can repace this with a 1/2"NPT to whatever you like fitting.

Thanks for that pointer chris. My starter is off and im pretty sure cummins has hired a gorilla to tighten the 3 10mm bolts
So there is not a valve supplied in the kit? I thought there was. Thanks again!

Dont know why I wrote valve when I was thinking fitting. I took off the supply line to the fuel heater and searched most the day away for a barbed fitting with a male end that would fit. The Threads look too fine to be NPT. Neither 1/2 inch or 3/8ths NPT/compression fittings would thread. Im thinking it is a special stealership size that cost 45 dollars or more. In a perfect world, the ass hats at Chrysler would be forced to wrench on their own stupid ideas for the rest of eternity with chinease made tools that are slippery from blood and tears of frustration.
Any way, Just had a nice guy at schucks (oreilys) order up some Gates 250 PSI fuel Injector Hose. About 4.50 a foot for the Half Inch. Planing on getting rid of as many expensive non repairable chrysler parts as possible with a re-plumb.

Thanks Chris- the female end of that hard line came off the top of my fuel heater. I was just going to route the fuel around the heater as so many here have advised but that female fitting defies me. Its not 1/2 NPT or 1/2 compression fitting. its not 3/8ths either

Hi Sua Sponte,
I finished the 12v re-plumb a few months ago and this is how mine now flows on the diesel side:
- Tank-stock filter-Supply valve-lift pump-injection pump

I eliminated the pre-heater after doing some research and realizing that it's useless for its intended function and another part to potentially fail/leak.

It is easiest to access the LP by taking the fuel filter off it's mount. Like Chris said, the inlet to the LP is 1/2NTP (I used 6AN fittings all around).

Not sure if you've gotten to this yet, but I highly recommend not messing around with cutting the hard lines and slipping a fuel line over them and clamping them down. Particularly where there are fittings available (inlet to the IP, inlet to the LP, inlet and outlet of the stock fuel filter). Someone posted a list of fittings in the Cummins specific thread, I believe they're M12 and M14 to 6JIC(AN). I can't remember now what I did with the outlet of the LP, I seem to remember it being a bugger to access.

Good luck!
Jeff

Found this in another thread:

"some interesting fittings needed for the project that is available through http://www.anplumbing.com/. all parts are now an fitting compatible (except one hose and two clamps for injectors return).

the banjo fitting at injection pump are a 14mm banjo fitting, with -6an fitting.
the IP return line i used the existing banjo bolt, and line, and used a 5/16 hard line adapter 165056.

diesel filter - 12mm orb fitting to -6 an adapters

3/8 npt to -6an on lift pump inlet, and 5/16 hard line adapter on outlet."

I couldn't find the 12v replumb thread, but if you do some hunting around it's in the forum somewhere. I found it helpful.

Cheers,
Jeff
